Its Actuity App uses a letter on the screen which reduces in size and can be a portable eye test.

Finally, it uses the camera’s flash facility to examine the back of the eye, checking for possible disease.

Clinical testing in Kenya has suggested the vision test is as accurate as the standard test of reading letters pinned to an optician’s wall.

The hope is that enough funding can be raised to enable this to be taken into the field. It is estimated that there are more than 285 million people around the world who are blind or visually impaired. Often their problems can be treated but there is no facility within easy reach for them to go to. It is hoped that this will provide the answer by taking the eye test and treatment to them.

We are fortunate in having excellent eye care within easy reach. If you are in Gloucester you can visit The Vision Centre or contact us on 01452 410494. Our website is at www.visiongloucester.co.uk.
