Daily disposable soft lenses are an excellent choice as they are designed for part-time wear and are disposed of straight after use, avoiding the hassle of the cleaning and disinfecting which you need with re-usable lenses.
For endurance events such as mountaineering or rally driving and in environments where lens handling is not practical, you should use lenses approved for extended or flexible wear, such as highly oxygen-permeable silicone hydrogel lenses.
There are some sports where statutory regulations will apply. Glasses are prohibited in rugby, for example, and neither glasses nor contact lenses are allowed to be worn in amateur boxing.
In other sports, such as squash, protective eyewear is either mandatory or recommended. In addition lenses you should not use contact lenses for swimming or water sports unless wearing tight-fitting goggles over the top and even then the lenses should be discarded immediately after the activity.
