Do – Take Spare Lenses with You.  It is so easy to get carried away when you are enjoying yourself.  We’ve all done it.  Next thing you know you have missed the last bus or train and you are looking at crashing on the couch.  Do make sure you have a spare pair of lenses with you or your cleaning solution.

Don’t – Wash Your Lenses in Water.  The problem here is bacteria.  Whether it is tap water or from the shower, there is a good chance the water will contain bacteria.  Get bacteria on your lenses and you could be heading for a severe eye infection.

Do – Change Your Lenses if they Feel Dry.  In the same vein, be prepared for running repairs if your eyes start to feel dry and your lenses feel uncomfortable.  Have spare lenses with you or even take a pair of glasses.

Don’t – Lick Your Lenses Clean.  It happens!  I’ve heard of people who licked their lenses ‘clean’ or licked a finger and rubbed them with it.  It won’t necessarily get the dirt off them and you run the risk of introducing bacteria.

Do – Take out Your Lenses Before Sleeping.  I know, you are very tired and possibly a little tipsy.  Sleeping with your lenses in is not a good idea, however.  The lenses prevent oxygen from reaching the surface of your eyes and this deprivation can lead to problems.

So, enjoy your festive season by all means but do think about your lenses.
